Houma is about 45 minutes south west of New Orleans.
We drive in to town on Saturday afternoon. On the way you pass over the Mississippi. I've always heard what a huge river it was, but it didn't seem as big as I thought. Probably because I've been on the Amazon a few times... hard to compare the two.
The free way was built up with pilings over swamp for a lot of the trip. Looks like something out of a Scooby Doo mystery movie :)
