Lehman Caves Campout

After getting a late start both Colton and Ethan crashed after we left Delta.

It wasn't too cold last night, but this igloo cooler had a slow leak in it.

Our tents did pretty well, but we camped where we were suppose to park the car and since we couldn't stake in the corners of the tent we just put huge chunks of wood inside and it seemed to do the trick.

Finishing off a soda before we start the tour...

This was the original opening to the caves that they would go down and explor around in the 1880's with candles. Little too spooky for me :)
Boys are kind of paying attention to the tour guide.
Cool stalagtites...
More learning.
This cave system and pretty nice access with concrete pathways and lights shining on important "treasures" as they were called. Some parts even had stairs with steps.
Right about now I'm remembering that I need to take these guys to hike the Narrows in Zion's this summer.
This feature was the boys favorite and they were waiting the whole trip to see it... CAVE BACON!!!
Looks like it should be in some anatomy text book or something.
The boys kept asking, "What do you call it when a stalagtite meets a stalagmite?" The tour guide, Brian, would answer "Column" - "No... what do you call it when they meet?" "We call 'em a colum..." After a minute or two they got it.
The writing on the ceiling is from candles that the early explorers used between 100 and 80 years ago.
Cave visitors over a hundred years ago would write their names and stuff on the ceiling in the soot from candles...
It turns out it creates food for a specific type of orange bacteria and that's the only place in the world they've found it.
Ryan found his name written.
This called the parachute or Jellyfish formation.

Thanksgiving 2009

We had one of the yummiest Thanksgiving dinners this year. Amy saw a Food Network show from Anne Burell where she put a Turkey in a salt water brine overnight and then roasted it the next morning. We stuck ours in an Igloo cooler in the garage overnight.
Then Amy prepared some kind of an herb-butter rubb and coated the turkey in it before we roasted it.

Then we basted it every half an hour with the butter-herb and roasted vegetable broth at the bottom of the roasting pan while it cooked.

Here's the FINAL version and it was so nice and juicy. Even the leftovers we kept eating were just SOO good.

Then we took another recipe from the Food Network site for Sausage and Apple stuffing. It was really good but I picked the "Spicy Italian" Colossimo's sausage and I think next year I'll just go with medium. It gave you a little bite at the back of your throat after you ate it.

For dessert Caleb had Rootbeer and the Ginger bread house... oh and a lot of Pumpking pie:)

BYU Homecoming Parade

Fall Leaves

We went around the Timp Loop to enjoy the colors.

Camping at Christmas Meadows

Greg and I decided to take a little trip up to Christmas Meadows in October... which is past Mirror Lake and almost to Wyoming.

The funniest thing Caleb has said...

... and he's had some good ones. We Caleb is really paying attention in Sunbeams. Today we were driving into Seattle in rush hour and Caleb unbuckled his seat belt to get down and find some toys that had fallen... Amy was trying to get him back in his seat, but she gets way too carsick when she looks back. So here we are driving down a super busy freeway with our son trying to get out of his car seat. All I can think of is yelling "Caleb, get back in your seat RIGHT NOW!!" Poor little guy starts bawling and sobbing as he gets in his seat and Amy buckles him in. When he gets control of himself he says (through the tears), "Daddy, you need to say sorry to Jesus... he's very sad right now because you yelled at me... he's up there crying right now... he's very sad." It was so hard for both of us not to laugh, then through more tears he says, "My heart is breaking right now!"

Poor little guy! As soon as we stopped I gathered him up and gave him a big hug and let him know how much I loved him when I was reminded that I was still "in big trouble with Jeus, got it!!!"

Seriously, where do the pick it up!!!

Quick Trip to Grand Junction

We headed out Fri after work at 6pm to make to Caleb's cousins home in Grand Junction, CO for KC Davis' baptism and subsequent B-day party. Caleb loved it!! He always has so much fun with his cousins.

We didn't get there until about 10:30pm so Rachel decided to make us breakfast in the morning.

Client was the BACONATOR!!!

Farewell, Davis family... until September... then October :)
